Cancellation¶
This guide explains what happens when you cancel your subscription to Zensical Spark.
Subscription¶
Subscriptions to Zensical Spark are ongoing and remain active until they're cancelled. You can initiate cancellations manually through your account settings at any time, and the cancellation will take effect at the end of your billing cycle, which is based on your initial subscription date.1
In some cases, your subscription may be automatically suspended, e.g., if your payment method becomes invalid, such as when a credit card expires. If a payment fails, you'll receive an email notification with instructions on how to update your payment information.
Effective date¶
Cancellations take effect at the end of your billing cycle, which means that you will retain access to Zensical Spark until that date. Following the end of your billing cycle, there's a 30-day confirmation period until all of your accounts are deactivated and anonymized.
Confirmation period¶
Since cancellations affect accounts and their associated history, we make sure they're intentional and not accidental. Once your cancellation becomes effective, we'll retain your accounts and their associated history for 30 days. This gives you a safety net in case you change your mind, or if the cancellation was caused by a simple payment issue.
If you require your data to be erased before the 30-day confirmation concludes, please contact Kathi at members@zensical.org after your cancellation is confirmed.
Effects of cancellation¶
On the effective date of the confirmation period, you will lose access to Zensical Spark, which affects all accounts that belong to the subscription and the content in private channels and chats.
Accounts¶
Once the 30-day confirmation period ends, all accounts of the subscription are anonymized, yet not deleted.2 This process removes all personally identifiable information and assigns the account a random username. However, all content (questions, answers, comments) previously created in public channels will remain visible and are attributed to this anonymized ghost account.
Private channels¶
All private channels and their history will be permanently deleted after the 30-day confirmation period ends. This action is irreversible, which means the data cannot be restored under any circumstances. To prevent the loss of valuable information, we strongly recommend saving any necessary data from private channels before cancelling your subscription.
Private chats¶
All private chats, including their entire message history and content, will be permanently deleted after the confirmation period ends. This action is irreversible, and data cannot be recovered once removed. We strongly recommend exporting and saving any important information from private chats before cancelling your subscription.
Resubscription¶
Within 30 days¶
If you resubscribe within the 30-day confirmation period, all accounts and their data will be restored immediately, and you will regain full access to all content, history, and private channels.
After 30 days¶
If you resubscribe after the 30-day confirmation period, your previous data cannot be recovered, as it has been irreversibly deleted and anonymized. You will need to set up a new subscription.

As an example, if you create a monthly subscription on the 15th of the month, and cancel it five days later on the 20th, you will retain access until the 15th of the next month. ↩

This approach ensures that conversations and threads remain coherent for other participants, while removing personal identifying information – a standard practice in professional communities where continuity of discussions is key. ↩
