Code of conduct

We want everyone to be able to participate in the Zensical community safely and respectfully. This Code of Conduct applies to everyone who participates, including community members, contributors, maintainers, customers, and our team.

Our commitment

We pledge to make our community welcoming, safe, and equitable for all. We respect the dignity, rights, and contributions of every person, regardless of race, ethnicity, caste, color, age, physical characteristics, neurodiversity, disability, sex or gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, language, philosophy or religion, national or social origin, socioeconomic position, level of education, or other status.

Within each community space, everyone who participates in good faith and follows this Code of Conduct is treated with equal dignity and respect.

Expected behavior

We expect everyone participating in our community to:

  • Respect the purpose of each community space and the people in it
  • Communicate with kindness, honesty, and empathy
  • Respect different viewpoints, experiences, and levels of knowledge
  • Give and receive constructive feedback thoughtfully
  • Take responsibility for mistakes and make a genuine effort to repair harm
  • Respect personal boundaries, privacy, and confidential information

Unacceptable behavior

The following behavior is not acceptable in our community:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or unwanted personal attention
  • Insults, demeaning comments, trolling, or personal attacks
  • Stereotyping or discrimination based on identity or personal characteristics
  • Sexualized language, imagery, attention, or advances
  • Sharing someone's private or confidential information without permission
  • Threatening, encouraging, or causing violence or other harm
  • Impersonating others, misrepresenting authorship, or evading moderation
  • Spam or promotional activity outside the purpose of a community space
  • Other conduct that threatens the safety or well-being of our community

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies across Zensical community spaces, including our GitHub repositories, Discord, Spark, support channels, and direct communication related to Zensical. It also applies when someone officially represents Zensical in public, online, or at an event.

Individual platforms may have additional rules. Our submission guidelines explain how we organize issues and pull requests; an incomplete or misplaced submission is not, by itself, a Code of Conduct violation.

Reporting a concern

If you experience or witness behavior that may violate this Code of Conduct, email hello@zensical.org. If you are unsure whether something is a violation, you can still contact us. Please do not share sensitive details publicly.

We handle reports as confidentially as reasonably possible and only share information needed to investigate and respond. A team member named in a report will not decide its outcome.

How we respond

We review reports promptly and fairly, considering the context, severity, impact, and any pattern of behavior. We may review relevant messages, records, and information provided by the people involved.

Our response will be proportionate to the situation. It may include:

  • Clarifying expectations or requesting a change in behavior
  • Removing or editing content
  • Issuing a private warning
  • Restricting participation or access for a defined period
  • Permanently removing someone from one or more community spaces

These actions are not a required sequence. We may skip intermediate steps when behavior is serious, repeated, or presents an immediate risk. Retaliation against someone who reports a concern or participates in a review is itself a violation of this Code of Conduct.

We normally handle enforcement privately. We may communicate a moderation decision when needed to protect the community, while prioritizing the privacy and safety of everyone involved.
